Regulated Member Statistics

The Dental Hygienists Profession Regulation establishes two categories of registration within the Regulated Member Register: General and Courtesy. General and Courtesy registrants hold a practice permit and may use the protected titles set out in the Act. Courtesy registrants may hold a practice permit for a specified purpose and period of time, as approved by the registrar, and for up to 60 days.

The College discontinued the Non-Practicing Register effective October 31, 2024. Registrants were advised of the change and given the option to cancel their registration or return to the General Register. On November 1, 2024, nine registrants transferred from the Non-Practicing Register back onto the General Register. Moving forward, there will no longer be transfers.

Advanced Restricted Activity Authorization

Individuals on the General Register who have provided evidence that they have achieved competence to perform advanced restricted activities may be authorized to perform those activities. Likewise, if authorized by the College, individuals on the Courtesy Register may also perform advanced restricted activities.

The following initiatives in the 2024–2025 registration year were implemented:

  • moved the Jurisprudence Examination modules and Protecting Patients from Sexual Abuse and Misconduct e-learning course to the new learning management system (LMS), allowing earlier access to applicants for registration;
  • expanded automation process for renewal, increasing the number of eligible automated renewals from 300 to 1,000;
  • revamped the registration pages on the ACDH website and increased transparency of substantially equivalent dental hygiene programs; and
  • built reporting dashboards through PowerBI to improve data collection on registration.
